Christopher James Christie is an American politician, political commentator, lobbyist and former federal prosecutor who served as the 55th Governor of New Jersey from 2010 to 2018. Christie was born in Newark, New Jersey and raised in Livingston, New Jersey. After graduating in 1984 from the University of Delaware, he received his doctorate from Seton Hall University School of Law. As a Republican, Christie was elected County President of Morris County, New Jersey, serving from 1995 to 1998. In 2002, he campaigned for Presidents George H. W. Bush and George W. Shrubs; then appointed him US attorney for New Jersey, a position he held from 2002 to 2008. Christie won the 2009 Republican primary election from the governor of New. Jersey and beat incumbent Representative Jon Corzine in the joint election. During his first term, he was credited with cutting spending, limiting property tax increases and helping in recovery efforts from Hurricane Sandy.
