Caroline Polachek is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. She is a member of synth-pop band Chairlift.
Caroline was raised in Japan and Connecticut. She has said that she has some French ancestry on her mother’s side.
Caroline’s paternal grandfather was Monroe M. Polachek (the son of Arthur Polachek and Barbara Baura Aneis). Monroe was born in Slovakia, to a Jewish family. Barbara was born in Hungary, the daughter of Tsvi Hersch Aneis and Mariam Auslander.
Caroline’s paternal grandmother was Ada Shils (the daughter of Benjamin Shils and Dina Berkowitz). Ada’s parents were Russian Jews. Dina was the daughter of Harris Berkowitz and Netie.
Caroline’s maternal grandfather was Walter Everett Allan (the son of Everett William Allan and Annabel Lane Hall). Walter was born in Rhode Island. Everett was born in Rhode Island, the son of William M. Allan, who was Scottish, and of Agnes L. Speirs, whose parents were Scottish. Annabel was born in Rhode Island, the daughter of William H. Hall, whose parents were English, and of Mary L., whose father was Irish, and whose mother was born in New Jersey.
